How to Apply and Maintain Gold Brew Hard Wax Oil
Good finishing starts before the bottle is opened. This guide walks through Gold Brew’s pad-on, buff-off workflow, from surface preparation to a later refresh. Gold Brew is a graphene-infused hard wax oil made in Texas for woodworkers who want the natural appearance and feel of wood, without mixing separate components or measuring ratios.

Get the surface and supplies ready
Sand the wood to your desired grit. Gold Brew’s existing application guidance notes that lower grits allow more absorption, while higher grits produce a higher sheen. Start with a clean, dry, dust-free surface. Preparation affects both the appearance of the finish and how much the wood absorbs.
Have an applicator pad or cloth ready, plus clean cotton or microfiber towels for removing excess finish. Keep a fresh cloth available for the final buff. The 13 oz Standard Kit includes 1 × 13 oz Gold Brew bottle, 2 × applicator pads, 4 × soft microfiber towels and 4 × lint-free rags.
Apply Gold Brew, step by step
1. Shake the bottle thoroughly
Shake well before opening to evenly distribute the graphene and wax formulation. “No mixing or ratios” means there are no separate components to combine; it does not mean skipping the shake.
2. Put a small amount on the applicator
Pour Gold Brew onto your applicator pad or cloth rather than directly onto raw wood. This gives you control over distribution as you work across the surface.
3. Work the finish into the wood
Use firm, circular motions to work the finish into the grain. Pay attention to thirsty areas and uneven absorption. End grain and porous hardwoods may need a more generous first application to absorb evenly. The goal is to work finish into the wood, then remove what remains on top.
4. Allow penetration, then buff dry
Allow at least 15 minutes for penetration. Then thoroughly buff off all excess finish with a clean cotton or microfiber towel. The surface should feel dry to the touch, not tacky. Wiping away the excess is part of the application process, not an optional final step.
5. Recoat after at least 15 minutes
Allow at least 15 minutes between coats. Follow the same apply, penetrate and buff-off sequence for each coat. The existing Gold Brew instructions recommend a typical 2–3-coat workflow. No sanding or scuffing is required between normal coats. A light final buff with a fresh microfiber cloth supports a smooth feel.
Recoating is different from curing
The recoat interval is not a promise that the finish is fully cured. The existing product instructions state: “Functional cure in 24–48 hours; full chemical cure in 7–14 days depending on environment and wood species.” Those are the established product instructions; the short recoat interval does not replace them.
If your conditions or intended use leave you unsure about readiness, contact Corley Woodcraft before putting the piece into service.
Maintain and refresh the finish
Keep maintenance focused on the wood and the area that needs attention. For a worn area, the existing care guidance is straightforward: clean the wood and buff on a light coat of Gold Brew. Routine touch-ups do not require sanding or stripping. Buff away excess as you would during the original application.
A refresh is not a reason to bury the surface under more finish. Use a light coat and follow the same application and curing guidance. For a cleaning product, stain or damage that is not covered by these instructions, ask us for care advice rather than guessing at compatibility.
If Gold Brew thickens in a cold shop
The existing cold-shop guidance is to place the sealed bottle in a warm water bath for a few minutes to restore smooth flow. Shake thoroughly before application. If the product still does not seem ready to use, contact Corley Woodcraft for guidance.
Handle the finish and used cloths responsibly
Do not ingest Gold Brew; it is not a beverage. Store it in a cool, dry place. The product safety instructions warn that oil-soaked rags may spontaneously combust and direct you to lay them flat outdoors to fully dry before disposal. Read the Specs, Safety & SDS section on the product page before starting.
