How Much Gold Brew Do I Need?
Choose Gold Brew for the work in front of you: a small test piece, a furniture build or a busy shop. Start with the surface you intend to finish, then allow for how that particular wood absorbs oil.
The approved coverage reference
13 oz Gold Brew covers approximately 250–300 sq. ft. This is a planning reference, not a guaranteed yield on every project. Actual coverage varies with wood species, porosity, surface preparation, end grain and how thirsty the wood is.
Do not treat this figure as a promise for a fixed number of completed projects or coats. The published reference does not specify a coat-count basis. For a quantity-critical job, ask Corley Woodcraft to help plan your finish quantity.
Measure the surfaces you will actually finish
Include every face you plan to coat, along with edges, legs, aprons and exposed end grain. A tabletop’s footprint alone does not describe the finish needed for an entire table. If you are finishing both sides, include both in your surface-area notes.
For a simple rectangular face, multiply its length by its width using the same units. Keep the area calculation separate from the coverage estimate: measuring the wood tells you its area, but not exactly how much finish it will absorb.
Why one project uses more finish than another
- Wood species and porosity: absorption differs between woods and within a single piece.
- Surface preparation: the existing instructions note that lower sanding grits allow more absorption, while higher grits produce a higher sheen.
- End grain: thirsty end grain may need a more generous first application for even absorption.
- The wood itself: a thirsty area can take more finish than the surrounding surface. Watch the work rather than relying only on a number.
The application method matters too: work finish in with a pad, allow penetration, and thoroughly buff off excess. Read the Gold Brew application and care guide for the complete workflow, including at least 15 minutes between coats.
Choose your bottle or kit
3 oz Project Size Trial: start small
The 3 oz Gold Brew Trial is intended for trying the finish on your own wood and for small builds or accent pieces. It is a practical starting point when appearance and feel on your material are the first questions to answer.
13 oz Standard Size: the primary project bottle
The 13 oz Gold Brew bottle is the standard choice for furniture and general woodworking projects. Use the approximate 250–300 sq. ft. reference alongside your surface-area notes and the absorption factors above.
13 oz Standard Kit: finish and application supplies
The 13 oz Standard Kit includes 1 × 13 oz Gold Brew bottle, 2 × applicator pads, 4 × soft microfiber towels and 4 × lint-free rags. Choose it when you want application supplies alongside your finish. It is a kit option, not a larger bottle of finish.
32 oz Growler: larger projects and regular shop use
The 32 oz Gold Brew Growler is intended for larger projects and higher-volume use. This guide does not assign an exact coverage figure to the Growler by multiplying the 13 oz estimate.
A useful plan before you order
Note the wood species, dimensions, faces and edges to be finished, preparation and intended application schedule. If absorption or appearance is uncertain, start with a trial on your material. For a large or quantity-critical project, bring those details to Corley Woodcraft for help choosing a quantity.
